Ski Volunteer
Are you a confident skier or snowboarder?
We offer an exciting opportunity to volunteer on our adaptive ski camp this coming season - “Ski & Ride” camp 6 - 13 April 2024 in Val Thorens, France.
Access Adventures is a registered charity delivering life-changing adaptive sports & activities. Our services are designed to challenge expectations and build self-confidence for people with disabilities.
There will be 6 disabled participants on this camp, all sit-skiers. We hope they will return from the camp with a great sense of achievement after the challenge of progressing in adaptive skiing and being in an inaccessible environment. Instruction is provided by Paralympic skiers.
Access Adventures needs able-bodied volunteers to help the camp run more smoothly. As a small charity, we unfortunately have very limited funding. If you are able to cover the cost of your flight, we can offer the camp (ski-in ski-out accommodation, full board, lift pass, equipment rental) for a £400 donation. If covering your own costs would be difficult then fundraising could be an option? We can provide assistance with this if needed. Accommodation is in shared rooms (max 4 per room) in a modern hostel, private bathrooms for each room.
Your role
Volunteers need to be confident skiers or snowboarders, adaptive ski experience is not essential. Roles undertaken may include:
-
General motivation and encouragement
-
Carrying equipment
-
Assisting participants with transfers/ getting around on snow
-
Assisting sit-skiers to load chairlifts
-
Assisting sit-skiers if they fall
We hope that you would benefit from the experience by learning about adaptive skiing. In addition to that, volunteering with us can be extremely rewarding.
There will also be opportunities for free ski time.
Travel
Most people fly into Geneva airport. It’s then an approx. 2 hr 30 min transfer up to the resort. We’ve arranged flight & transfers via a group booking for some participants and volunteers in the past, details on this for 2024 will be provided separately.
